How are you feeling?

When my dental hygienist asked me the same question a few days ago, I replied: “Good. Kids are at home – relaxed and healthy, tomatoes are ripe, and there is plenty of sunshine.”

I wanted to tell her about my slow recovery from the surgery, and how much I miss performing and touring, but you know how it is with dental hygienists…They ask you a question and you have 10 seconds to answer before they stick stuff into your mouth.

So, you choose your words carefully because they’ll linger in your head for as long as you are stuck in that chair.

Much like in many other unpleasant situations in life, when I am in the dentist’s chair, I want – and NEED – good, positive, happy thoughts to occupy my mind 🙂

Now, back to August mornings, kids on a summer break, tomatoes and sunshine… and all good things.

What’s putting a smile on your face these days? What’s creating a sense of abundance in your heart?

I love keeping my window open at night and falling asleep to the sound of the cicadas.

And sitting at the table eating dinner with my boys without rushing.

And working and being creative… and absolutely being blown away by the fruits of our work when we work with love (whether the work is growing tomatoes or publishing a book )

I believe that a sense of abundance is closely connected with gratitude, presence (or awareness), and creativity.

Creativity is not just about arts, or music, or decorating your home and doing crafts.

You can be creative with your time or with cooking.

You can use your creativity to adapt to a pandemic, to scale your business, to change your career, or to parent a child.

Without creativity we feel stuck with what we have – or don’t have. With it, we can find solutions and make our lives better. (I think I was pretty creative in that dentist chair, to find a way to make it more pleasant, LOL)

I hope this gives you some inspiration in these challenging times… and THAT hope makes me smile too…

One more thing I’d like to share with you:

For the very first time, I had the experience of someone doing a book club study with the (un)Broken book!

I was nervous and humbled and honored. I was incredibly grateful to hear how each of the women related to the words I wrote, what moved them and why.

We will be spending five weeks with the book – the study is hosted by my friend and an incredible artist/inspirational speaker, Kim Belew. I can’t wait to dig in!

One of the ladies shared how she loved this paragraph from the book:

We used to dance in the summer evenings to the songs played by my dad’s band. Children, teenagers, young and old, we all dressed up and danced and twirled long into the night… laughing, sweating, stealing a sip of wine mixed with water in between songs.

She said it made her pause and remember her own memories from childhood that had the similar feel – of children and adults spending time together – not on the coast of Croatia, but at a fair somewhere in America.

She described it so vividly and awoke the emotions of it in such a real way that I felt like I was there with her.

She also mentioned how it made her think about different cultures celebrating their togetherness in different ways.

This put a smile on my face and a sense of abundance – and gratitude – in my heart.

How awesome it is to be a part of creating such great moments in which we connect and share beautiful experiences? In which we even heal a little deeper…

I invite you to pause and think of times when you created moments of joy, love, peace, abundance for someone else, and you felt them just as much as they did!
