How are you?

I hope you are enjoying the fall with peace and calmness – and sending that peace and calmness into the world. And I hope you have someone to support you if you are struggling with anxiety, a sense of despair, and fear.

Because that support changes everything.

It’s the difference between despair and hope.

We can lift someone up with kindness, compassion, a smile, or a word or two of acknowledgement that makes someone heard and seen – and less lonely.

We can also hurt someone and bring them down with a reckless, hurtful post on social media.

This past week, we had my first session of our (un)Broken book study – and I was reminded of the beauty and power we all have in creating the world we live in.

One of us offers a few lines, a thought, an emotion, an experience. Things we create trigger another thought, emotion, insight in someone else. And in turn, they create something and it spreads in a ripple.

We get to create something beautiful – that carries a story of hope and healing.

But we also are capable of creating a message of blame and hatred that triggers fear and unrest.

Each of us has a choice about what we create and send out into the world. Each of us has a choice about what we pick up and react to. (Below I’m sharing a poem about dancing. To me, dancing is what comes to mind first when I think about someone creating something that others can engage with.)

~

But first, here is a piece of music (and story behind it) that I want to share with you today.

It’s “Waves on a Moonlit Sea” from the Blue Landscapes series – by my friend jazz flautist Damjan Krajacic and classical pianist Roberth Thies.

They say they ‘came together from different worlds and found a common ground in this improvisation’. The definition of improvisation is creating without preparation. 🙂

Think of what the world would be like if we came together and, without preparation, found common ground in creating peace.

Like musicians, whose years of learning to play instruments and practicing allows them to improvise, when we practice kindness, love and compassion in our lives, we know what to do.

Damjan and our mutual friend guitarist Mak Grgic created a wonderful website for musicians (and aspiring musicians) Metronomeonline.com.

They interviewed me about practicing rhythm in my music. You can read it here:

Here is my poem about Dancing… (oh, how I miss in-person dancing…)

    Coaching:

There is a lot in this post:

    • Taking time to observe your state of mind, heart, and spirit
    • Checking your support system (are you supported?)
    • Choosing what we create – and how we become support for others when we create peace and beauty
    • Improvising (creating without preparation – don’t be afraid to create, you ARE ready)
    • Dancing to the rhythm of life
    • Refusing to dance (when dance doesn’t seem right) is also OK.

    What resonates with you?

Dance, smile, and create something beautiful this week 🙂
